Frequently Asked Questions
Am I qualified for a trainee program position?
Trainees will be hired into a designated department based on skills, education and interest.
Are there opportunities for advancement?
Throughout our connected food system, there are a variety of jobs and career pathways for individuals in the trainee program. The program is designed to offer you flexibility to build your own career and advance into positions that you are passionate about.
How long does it take to advance in the company?
Once you start the trainee program, advancement is up to you. Seaboard Foods is looking for individuals with ambition, a positive attitude, a passion for the industry and a willingness to learn. How far and how quickly you advance at Seaboard Foods is in your hands.
How does mentorship work?
You will have a formal mentor that will support you through your training. As you rotate through different areas of operations, you will have the ability to meet others in the company and learn from them, providing informal mentorship.
What is compensation like?
You will start making a competitive, entry-level income with full benefits that start on day one and additional employee perks. There are also opportunities to make extra money through our employee referral program. Learn more about benefits on the Career Center by selecting it from the drop down menu on the home page.
What are the benefits?
You can learn more about benefits, by visiting the benefits page in the Career Center. Trainees will get all the traditional benefits, like medical, dental, vision, retirement savings and paid time off. In addition, there are other perks like discounted pork products, employee referral bonuses, wellness programs, family events and discount programs, which vary by location. Benefits are effective on date of hire.
What locations are there trainee programs?
To learn more about locations, visit the locations page in the Career Center. Seaboard Foods has trainee programs in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and at our corporate headquarters in the Kansas City Metro Area (Shawnee Mission, Kan.).
How long does the program last?
The program takes about eight to 12 months, but the completion of the program can take less or more time, depending on how long it takes to learn the skills you need to be able to advance to the next step in your career.
Will I have to relocate?
We try to match trainees with their locational preferences when applicable, but often times, trainees have to relocate. In order to have cross-functional experiences, complete assignments and engage in the learning process, relocation and travel should be expected. Trainees who do not limit themselves to location often times have more opportunities within the company.
Is there relocation assistance?
Relocation assistance is available.
Is there assistance finding housing?
There is assistance finding housing if you need to relocate. Contact a recruiter for more information.
What departments have trainee programs?
